Homework Assignments

Hi everyone. I’m your teacher, Brad, and I have some assignments to hand out to you, but only if you’re up for the challenge. This first assignment is very easy, it’s just tedious and eats up a lot of time, which is why I’m nearly 10 years behind on it. I have a lot of old prank show files, dating all the way back to 2016. Currently I have 1,178 files, which total 56.4 gigs of data, which equals approximately 687 hours of show audio. Keep in mind, these files are mostly just the prank call segments of past Snow Plow Shows and Hobosodes, not the intros, music, or voicemails. I’ve been chipping away at these files myself for years now, mostly at the earliest years first, and I’m only up to 2016, which is just 4 years after the show started.

So here’s the assignment, should you choose to accept it. I’m going to put a few files in a directory that you can view, maybe just a few months at a time. You should choose whatever file you want from this list of files, listen to it, and log its contents as you listen. Then send your finished log file to homework@snowplowshow.com where I will grade it, and hopefully remove the file you did quickly so nobody else does it. I’ve made a rough template of what a log file should include and how it should be formatted. Here’s a log file I just did for a 2017 show…

As you can see, I’ve devised an ingenious rating system, using asterisks as stars, because us teachers love stars. Pretend they’re shiny and gold.

One star ( * ) Not funny. Don’t even save it.
Two stars ( * * ) Barely funny
Three stars ( * * * ) I lol’ed once. It was okay.
Four stars ( * * * * ) It was good enough maybe to replay on the beginning of a show
Five stars ( * * * * * ) Very funny, maybe use as a YouTube prank single

Try to log the beginning and ending time of each prank call. Do your best to be accurate within a few seconds. It doesn’t have to be perfect, though. Describe the prank, or just write a few words about whats in the call. Add your own thoughts or whatever. End each line of your log file with a 1 to 5 star rating. Send your log file to homework@snowplowshow.com and maybe add “homework assignment” to the subject line so I can notice it quickly and get the file taken off of the list and replaced with a new one. You can attach the log file to the email, or just copy and paste it into the email itself.

Thank you for your help with this assignment! Your log files will help me quickly remove pranks these show files and they can be used in future PLA work, such as YouTube prank singles, episodes of World of Prank Calls, PLA media pack torrents and USB drives, and maybe even a future PLA prank call album.
