I like this idea, there’s a lot of mileage in it. Like where I live, they stage an annual weekend car rally on the roads out of town, you would not believe how butt hurt people get over it, it’s crazy. Maybe you could tell them that the town is converting their road to a truck weigh station, or a refuse transfer area (you know, where the municipality trucks transfer stinky waste to the bigger trucks) or a community dragstrip or part of a speedway track or something. Or because of the level of complaints, the mayor has decided to close the road altogether and convert it into a storage area for the roads people (you know, somewhere to store the huge mountains of gravel and hardcore and stuff)
